For better or worse, WWE officials have been making some interesting moves on SmackDown Live over the past year, and one of those moves included making Jinder Mahal WWE Champion and pushing him as a top star.

Jinder’s push came to an end shortly before Survivor Series in 2017, as the Modern Day Maharaja dropped the title to AJ Styles, and Styles went on to face Brock Lesnar in a Champion vs. Champion match at the pay-per-view.

Just about every wrestler aspires to be WWE Champion, but during a recent appearance on Lilian Garcia’s Chasing Glory podcast, AJ Styles noted that Jinder Mahal took it very well when he found out he was dropping the belt.

“He took it well,” Styles said via Wrestling Inc. “I literally said, ‘Jinder, what do you think?’ I wanted to know what he thought, if he was okay with it, because that’s important to me that, ‘I’m not better than you. You’ve been a great champion. What do you think, man?’ and he was okay with it. Again, he has been in the business for a while now, so he was very mature in the way he handled it and I appreciate that.” Styles continued, “sometimes you have to wait your tour and sometimes it takes longer than you’d like, but eventually you’ll be back on top.”

Jinder Mahal recently inserted himself into the US Title picture, and even though he might not be in the top spot anymore, Styles noted that the wrestling business is cyclical, so Jinder could very well find himself in the top spot again at some point in the future.
